dMap or dMapi

dMap is for Map End-users
dMap mapping applications present data from the dMapi Directory, allowing end-users to:
  • Visually access and manipulate data via the online dMap mapping applications
  • Download data in convenient formats such as CSV, XLS and PDF.
dMapi is for Map Application Builders

The Online Data Directory is accessible to Google Maps application builders via the dMapi.

The dMapi provides a common programmable interface which simplifies on demand access to disparate data sources. The dMapi is accessible by AJAX applications via cross-domain JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) requests or by application servers through SOAP Web Services if required.

dMapi Data Format & Functionality
The dMapi data format is optimised to support zoom level algorithms for:
  • Address grouping
  • Polygon smoothing
  • Google polygon encoding

    • The levels of grouping, smoothing and encoding are programmatically controllable via the dMapi.

dMapi Future Direction

The dMapi is used cross-domain by dMap applications, yet, as an open access public Data Directory, it's early days and we've still to finalise the public dMapi API.

Constructive feedback is welcomed on how the public dMapi and Fair Use Policy should be progressed in order for this to become a significant community resource.

Online Data Directory API (dMapi)

dMapi

The dMapi is a growing Online Data Directory of Public and Private sector data sets.

The dMapi provides data in an optimised, purpose built Google Maps format. The dMapi data format allows Google Maps web applications to display data from large complex Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data files of 100s of Megabytes in size and with 100,000s of addresses.

dMapi Fair Use Policy
At dMap, we believe open access to information and data ultimately underpins a successful and equitable society. We're committed to initiatives that support this outcome. As such, public data sets in the dMapi (Data Directory) are freely provided under a Fair Use Policy. The main aim of the Fair Use Policy is to ensure that access and use of these online resources are within the community spirit. Fair Use means you must not do anything that impacts other people's use of the dMap or dMapi services.
dMapi Collaboration

We actively support organisations who wish to collaboratively publish their data online in a Google Maps data format via the dMapi.

Data published through the dMapi can be made public or restricted to target audiences through username/password, email, IP address or URL authentication.
